“Unsupportable Absurdities” is a series of black and white photographs that combine aspects of performance and self portraiture. I am interested in exploring themes of gender, power and the relationship between artist and subject and stage scenes that often refer to Western art and / or women´s history. Most of the work is situated in the domestic space, which in Central European households was traditionally the female domain and additionally poses a contrast to the institutional realm, where most art works are shown. Moreover, the images frequently contain an aspect of absurdity, which encourages reflection on the gestures displayed, as well as allow for an element of humour to enter the work.
